Weekend Fights Wrap Up

UFC 275

Giphy

UFC 275 was one of those cards that over delivered in a big way, in large part due to the taste you were left with after the main event - a fight many are calling one of the best title fights in light heavyweight championship  history. Overall, the main card ended up with 3 knock outs, 1 submission, and 1 fight that went to decision. Below are some highlights recapping the night:

  • Jiří Procházka submitted Glover Teixeira by rear naked choke with only 28 seconds left in the fight, a fight in which all 3 judges score cards had Glover winning - so he was just 28 seconds away from retaining the belt. It was a back and forth instant classic.

  • Valentina Shevchenko won by controversial split decision in a fight most expected to be a walk in the park for her. The surprise competitiveness is what made this fight exciting, when in reality the most damage done in the fight was from an accidental clash of heads - causing Santos to break her orbital bone and fight the last two rounds only being able to see out of one eye.

  • Weili Zhang defeated Joanna Jędrzejczyk by a spinning back fist KO. Joanna Jędrzejczyk retired as a legend after the loss.

  • Jack Della Maddalena and Jake Matthews both had impressive KO victories.

Lock Of The Week Review

Parlay (+105) - Did Not Cash: Teixeira vs Procházka fight not to go the distance (-500) WITH Zhang vs Jedrzejczyk over 1.5 rounds (-500) WITH Seung Woo Choi (-235)

We lost the hot streak. We only hit one of the three legs of the parlay. So from an outsiders view, looks like we weren't even close. But hey, if you take a closer look you'll see that we were only 2 (!) seconds away from hitting the Zhang vs Jedrzejczyk over 1.5 rounds, and then also only one judges score card away from hitting the Choi piece of the parlay (he lost a split decision in a close fight.) Game of inches, So I don't feel we're too far off here, we'll look to right the ship next week.

Clip of the Week

This tweet of two pictures just 72 seconds apart shows just how back and forth the main event really was on Saturday night. Pic one shows Glover in a dominant mount with just 1:40 left in the fight, the second shows Jiri walking off with the submission victory just 72 seconds later.
