UFC Fight Night: Tsarukyan vs Gamrot

UFC

Remember how great I said last weeks card was? Can not say the same for this week. You may be sensing a theme here, the UFC seems to be putting together pretty weak cards at the Apex since they don't need to fill seats. Of course I'm still going to watch and recap the fights for you guys because I'm a degenerate, but I won't blame you for missing the card this weekend. Start prepping for next Saturdays stacked PPV event.

With that said, here are some things to look out for Saturday night if you do decide to tune in:

  • The main event Tsarukyan vs Gamrot is a great fight between two impressive lightweight prospects. Gamrot is tough and well respected coming in at 20-1 but Tsarukyan is expected to be a future champ and walk away with this win. If you watch tape on him, you'll see why people are so high on him. His only loss in the UFC was his debut when he was 22 against Islam Makhachev who is about to fight for the belt.

  • Another impressive prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov goes against tough vet Neil Magny. Rakhmonov is undefeated with 3 ko's in his 3 UFC fights. You may not know him now, but you will.

  • Umar Nurmagomedov is a -1050 (!) favorite against Nathan Maness. How much of that betting line is based on his talent and how much of it is based on him being Khabib's cousin?

  • Carlos Ulberg is the main event of the prelims. He trains with Israel Adesanya, was a kickboxing champion, and was also on Australia's version of the Bachelor.

I know I know, sorry for the -145 parlay but I feel good about this one and it's a weak card. We are back at it again with the two leg parlay and riding with the up and coming star prospects.

Some stats behind the reasoning for these picks:

  • As mentioned above, Tsarukyan is one of those impressive kids who has been fighting since he came out of the womb. His only loss coming at age 22 to Islam Makachev who many say will go down as the goat.

  • Garmot is 20-1 BUT only 3-1 in the UFC and 2 of those 4 opponents have been cut since they fought. He's impressive don't get me wrong, but there's levels to this.

  • Shavkot is 3-0 in the UFC with three finishes never reaching the third round

  • Magny is 2-1 in his last three, but he seems to always crumble to the top level competition. Once again, there's levels to this.
