Weekend Fights Preview

UFC 274

mmamania.com

A great night of fights featuring two championship bouts. Charles Oliveria will defend the lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje in the main event. While Rose Namajunas, whom many consider the greatest strawweight of all time, will look to revenge one of her few (4) loses in a title bout against Carla Esparza.

In addition to those championship fights UFC 274 will feature the return of many fan favorites from back in the early UFC days. Tony Ferguson, Shogun Rua, Donald Cerrone, and Joe Lauzon are on the card with speculation that one or two of them may be competing in their last fight before sailing off into retirement. Their names may not carry the same valor they once did, but they still bring some extra excitement to the night.

Lock of the Week

Justin Gaethje (+145)

firstsportz.com

Gaethje breaks people. Period. He has a habit of breaking the unbreakable (see Tony Furguson fight) Charles Oliveria has had his willingness to break questioned but has recently shut those doubters up en route to collecting the lgihtweight title. Oliveria has all the talent in the world, which is why we can get Gaethje at plus money. Look for Gaethje to bring the will of Charles into question again, and ultimately break him as he has with many others.

Storyline to Watch

Charles Oliveria Missed Weight

mmaweekly.com

In a unique situation, Charles Oliveria has missed weight for his title fight against Justin Gaethje by 0.5 pounds. This means that the lightweight title is officially vacated and Gaethje can win the title Saturday night, however if Charles wins, the title will remain vacated. Such drama over a whole half a pound. Not only does this bring questions asbout what will happen to the belt after this fight, but also what does this mean about the version of Charles Oliveria we may see in the cage Saturday night?

"...Thinking you're on weight, then missing weight...Is a living nightmare both physically and mentally."
